COVID-19 Weekly Update

November 17, 2020

Dear Manitou Springs School District Community,
During last night’s Board of Education meeting, I shared with the BOE that we would be providing an update on our learning models for the weeks between Thanksgiving and Winter Break. These decisions are based on our ability to staff all schools with licensed and classified staff for students in ways that provide consistency and continuity. This is especially important as we navigate the changing guidelines and recommendations from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).

Manitou Springs High School:
MSHS will continue with Remote Learning through the end of the first semester (Friday, December, 18). Principal Hull will be providing school-specific updates.

Manitou Springs Middle School:
MSMS will pivot to the Remote Learning model. The Remote Learning model will continue through the end of the first semester (Friday, December, 18). The 6th and 8th Graders who are in Cohort 2 will still attend class this Thursday and Friday, so they have an opportunity to connect to their teachers after learning remotely for the two previous weeks. Principal Cady will be providing school-specific updates.

Ute Pass Elementary School & Manitou Springs Elementary School:
On Friday, November 20, we will make an announcement regarding our learning plans for our elementary students. This allows us to evaluate the impact that the change in guidelines via CDPHE will have on our ability to maintain in-person learning.

These decisions are never easy, in fact, they are some of the most challenging decisions that a district and school leader can make, especially as in-person learning will always be our goal. I feel these decisions deeply as I know how much they impact students, families, and staff.

As we plan for the start of the second semester (January 8, 2021), we are fully committed to in-person learning and will take steps to achieve that goal. We will be providing updates to this planning process and models during the middle of December.

Thank you for your continued support and demonstration of resiliency during these times. We appreciate you.

With care,
Elizabeth Domangue
